Every so often we stumble across the mesmerizing effects of human genetics that seem to dazzle and impress everybody.
The following 24 photos of Mothers and their Daughters are of particular interest. Each one of these pairs looks almost IDENTICAL to their parents, both in age and looks. How is this possible you might wonder? Well, buckle up kids, you’re about to go on a lovely ride through the basics of genetics! Huzzah!
The first rule of genetics is that we are all made up of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid. Still remember that one from Science 101?). This DNA is made into thread-like structures that make up our chromosomes inside our human cells which determine everything from looks, traits, race, sexual orientation, and just about everything else. This will also determine whether you have blue eyes or brown eyes, curly hair or straight hair. The possibilities are endless, but thankfully when we look at genetics, we can usually predetermine how a child may look given certain things we know about science. Check out these 25 photos of genetic marvels!
1. Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Phillippe:
Holy smokes! These two ladies look like sisters! It’s hard to believe that this is actress Reese Witherspoon and her younger daughter! Who knew that looks could be so identical when it comes to parents and their children. How is this possible you wonder? Well, let’s find out!
2. 43-Year-Old Mom and Her Two Twins:
It’s hard to believe this mother and her two twins aren’t all just triplets. (This is possible because identical twins have the exact same DNA which is why they have the same appearance. Each of our cells has 23 pairs of chromosomes and for each pair, one will come from your Father’s DNA, and one from your Mother.)
3. Mother Is the One With The Bun:
This mother looks like she could be one of the children’s siblings. It’s remarkable how much she looks like her children. (A person’s physical appearance is predetermined by the unique genetic combinations from both parents. It’s great when these combinations help make you look eternally young with your children’s looks.)
4. Mother (41) and her daughter are partners in crime:
This woman uploaded a photo of her and her mother, claiming that they are best friends as well as partners in crime. (Your looks are determined by the chromosomes from each parent and are broken down into two categories: dominant and recessive traits.)
5. Demi Moore and her Daughter Rumer Willis:
Here, Demi Moore is pictured looking almost identical to her daughter Rumer. (In this case, dominant traits make up brown eyes, cleft chins, dimples, naturally curly hair, baldness and or shortness. For recessive traits, this will determine Grey, green, hazel or blue eyes, blonde hair, thin lips, rounded hairline, no freckles, or how tall you are.)
6. A mother (63) with her two daughters:
This woman is seen pictured with her two daughters, aged 41 and 36. It’s hard to tell which one is the mother because they’re all so youthful looking. (Your children’s traits always come from your parents, but their genomes can be influenced by generations of people who came before them. This is the case when your child might be born with blue eyes, but neither of their parents has them.)
7. Shweta Nanda Bachchan and her daughter Navya Naveli Nanda:
Like mother, like daughter is especially true with this Bollywood actress and her daughter seen here. (Genetics are also responsible for determining Complex traits, such as hereditary diseases. Your doctor or family practitioner may warn you about diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Mental Illness.)
8. Mother (51) and her daughter:
We can’t even tell which one is the mother and which is the daughter in this photo. (Other factors can influence your genetics including your parent’s lifestyle choices, and the environment you grow up in when it comes to genetic diseases.) All in all, there are a lot of factors that make up how you might look when it comes to genetics. But what about when it comes to looking identical?
9. Twins or Sisters:
This mother/daughter combo makes it hard to understand if they’re both twins or actually mother/daughter. The mother on the left and daughter on the right have the same wild red hair! (This is because the mother and daughter share the same phenotype, the term given to the genes that make up your genotype (which then determines your phenotype or how you look)
10. 15-Year-Old Daughter and her Mother (right):
It’s hard to believe these two aren’t sisters, but if you look closely enough you’ll see that one is younger than the other. (When both forms of a gene are the same, they are said to be what is called “homozygous.” So these two women have almost the same homozygous traits when it comes to the dominant genes shared by the mother and the daughter.)
11. Prom Dress Shopping:
According to this mother/daughter combo, they are headed out prom dress shopping, but it’s hard to believe which one of them requires the prom dress! Both women look like they could be getting ready for a prom. (Black hair and brown eyes are dominant genes that are very common in people who are black.)
